How do I swap my rented modem for a purchased modem?

  1. Disconnect the coaxial cable and ethernet or USB connection from your old modem.

  2. Connect the coaxial cable to the new modem you have just purchased.

  3. Next, connect the ethernet or USB cable that connects to your computer to the new modem.

  4. Restart your computer and attempt to access the internet.

  5. You will be sent to a Mediacom webpage where you will be asked to enter your account information and registration code.

  6. This is needed in order to register the new cable modem.

  7. Click on the "Restore Account" button.

  8. You will then be prompted to swap the cable modem on your account.

  9. After you have successfully swapped your modem, restart your computer.

  10. If you have any routers or hubs attached to the modem, make sure to unplug them from the electrical outlet, wait 15 seconds and then plug them back in prior to restarting your computer.

  11. Be sure to bring your old rented modem back to the Mediacom Store or local office to avoid an unreturned equipment charge.
