How Do I Clear the Netscape Cache, Cookies, and History from My PC?

The Internet uses cache, cookies and history files to store specific information about a Web page on your computer's hard drive. These files enable the browser to find the same pages more quickly when you access them later.

CACHE FILE: The cache file stores Web page information for quick retrieval later; a cached page is accessed more easily than the original page; frequent updates by the browser ensure you are getting the most recent version.

To delete the cache files:
1. Open Netscape
2. Click on EDIT for a pull-down menu
3. Select PREFERENCES
4. A new window opens
5. Double-click ADVANCED
6. A new list appears
7. Single-click CACHE
8. A new section appears at the right
9. Click the buttons labeled: CLEAR MEMORY CACHE and CLEAR DISK CACHE
10. The system will prompt you to confirm your request
11. Click OK to confirm
12. Verify that your Memory cache is set for 1,024 kilobytes and the Disk cache is set to 7,024 kilobytes (make changes to settings as necessary)
13. Click OK

COOKIES FILE: A cookies file stores your preferences for viewing a particular Web page. Mediacom Cable Internet Service does not track usage through cookies; however, it does store information about your system that you may have entered in the Customer Service page.
To clear the cookies files:
1. Click START in the lower left corner of your screen
2. Click on FIND
3. Click on FILES AND FOLDERS
4. Type: cookies
5. Click on FIND NOW
6. Locate and double-click on the file with your user name
7. Click the cursor anywhere in the list
8. Press CTRL + A to highlight the items
9. Press the DELETE key to clear all items

Please be aware that clearing all cookies may delete some that you would like to retain. You will need to access the Web pages you use regularly to reset cookies for those pages.
To delete the Netscape history files:
1. Open Netscape
2. Click EDIT from the pull-down menu at the top of the screen
3. Select PREFERENCES
4. The Preferences window opens
5. Double-click NAVIGATOR
6. A new section opens to the right
7. Click CLEAR HISTORY
8. A box will prompt you to confirm your request
9. Click OK
